EclipseCon Early Registration Deadline is February 14

This time EclipseCon takes place March 17-20, in Santa Clara, CA. There are more than 350 tutorials and talks covering all aspects of Eclipse technology and commercial interests. It is possible to register by February 14 for a $700 discount off the onsite price.

open source = successful business strategy

Again a company is bought for a huge amount of money, which successfully placed an open source product in the market.

On 16 January 2008 MySQL AB announced an agreement to be acquired by Sun Microsystems for approximately US $1 billion. The acquisition is expected to close in the third or fourth quarter of Sun's fiscal year which ends on 30 June 2008.

This acquisition shows clearly how interesting open source has become as a business strategy. The market value of a product is not influenced by the type of license. Wether its closed or open source is just not important for successful marketing.

Nonetheless I hope we will see less closed source in the future.

OOP 2008 in Munich

Since I am from Munich, Germany, my first post will be about our local technology fair, the OOP. This fair is organized by SIGS DATACOM, a German publishing house specialized on object oriented software development.
